Three former local athletes playing football at UW-Eau Claire

EAU CLAIRE – Three former area high school players are playing football at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire this season.

Stratford High School graduates Matt Olson and Chris Olson, and 2009 Marshfield graduate Matt Hawley are playing for the Blugolds this season.

Matt Olson, a 2006 Stratford grad and a senior, is the team’s second leading rusher this season, piling up 242 yards and two touchdowns in four games. Olson had 55 yards rushing and a 7-yard touchdown run in last Saturday’s 31-21 win over UW-La Crosse.

Chris Olson, a 2008 Stratford graduate, is a senior cornerback for the Blugolds and has 15 tackles, including one for loss, this season. He started seven games a year ago.

Hawley, a junior defensive lineman, has nine tackles in limited playing time this season for Eau Claire.

Eau Claire is 4-2 and 2-1 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. It plays at UW-Stevens Point at 1 p.m. Saturday, and has games remaining at Platteville on Oct. 29, at home against Whitewater on Nov. 5 and at River Falls on Nov. 12.
