STEVENS POINT – The Marshfield Columbus Catholic boys soccer team continued its upset trail through the WIAA playoffs by knocking off Stevens Point Pacelli 1-0 in a Division 3 sectional semifinal at Scaffidi Field on Thursday night.

The fifth-seeded Dons (11-9-1), who beat No. 4 Tri-County and No. 1 La Crosse Aquinas on its way to meeting No. 2 Pacelli, will battle No. 1 seed Wausau Newman Catholic from the other side of the bracket in a sectional final on Saturday at 4 p.m. at Scaffidi Field in Stevens Point.

Newman (19-2-2), who won the Mid-State Soccer Conference and defeated 5-0 and 1-0 in a pair of conference matchups this year, needed two overtimes to knock off Barron 2-1 in a sectional semifinal Thursday at home.

The winner of Saturday’s game moves on to the WIAA State Boys Soccer Tournament in Milwaukee next week.

Details of the Dons’ win were not provided to MarshfieldAreaSports.com.
