Ashbeck leads Marshfield boys basketball in rout of Merrill

MERRILL – Marshfield seinor guard Elliot Ashbeck scored 22 points to lead the Tigers to their first win of the season, a 47-26 whitewash of Merrill in the Wisconsin Valley Conference boys basketball opener for both teams.

Luke Zuiker added 13 points for the Tigers, who improve to 1-1 overall.

Jared Wardell and David Jesperson each scored six to lead Merrill, which made only 10 baskets in the game.

Merrill led 9-8 after the first quarter, but the Tigers dominated the rest of the way.

Marshfield used a 14-5 run in the second quarter to take a 22-14 lead into halftime, then outscored the Bluejays 25-12 in the second half on its way to its first win.

Marshfield has a pair of road games next week – at Eau Claire North on Tuesday and at Stevens Point next Friday.
