Stratford wrestling team goes 3-0 to win home tournament

STRATFORD – The Stratford wrestling team rolled through its three matches to go undefeated at the Stratford Quad on Friday night at Stratford High School.

The Tigers beat Spencer 43-27, Northwood/Solon Springs 74-6 and Elcho 69-9. Spencer finished second going 2-1. The Rockets beat Northwood/Solon Springs 62-6 and Elcho 58-10.

Stratford won the final four matches to rally past Spencer.

Trailing 27-22, Andrew Murdaugh started the run of wins for Stratford, beating Kyle Andrae 4-2 in the 285-pound match. Ryan Adank won by forfeit at 106 pounds, Hunter Brandt pinned Zach Hahn at 113 pounds in 1:20, and Andrew Schreiner finished off the win with a pin with just 3 seconds left in the 120-pound match over Dylan Schubert.

Alex Heiden added a pin at 152 for the Tigers, while Spencer got pins from Danny Schubert (160), Sam Nigon (195) and Nick Vaughan (220).
