COLBY – The Spencer boys basketball team found itself in a tough spot Tuesday night – down 11 points at halftime on the road to Colby and its chances at a Cloverbelt Conference East Division title slipping away.

The halftime break may have been the worst thing for the Hornets.

Spencer outscored Colby 18-7 in the third quarter and 34-17 overall in the second half to win 49-43 at Colby High School.

The Rockets improve to 14-5 overall and 13-2 in the Cloverbelt East, holding their spot one-half game behind first-place Marshfield Columbus Catholic in the standings. Columbus beat Granton 63-39 on Tuesday to remain in first place. Spencer wraps up its Cloverbelt schedule at home against third-place Neillsville on Friday. The Dons host Greenwood and play at Loyal on Monday in its final two games.

Josh Weier scored 16 points and Tyler Kolstad added 15 points for the Rockets. The two players combined to make 8 of 11 shots from 3-point range to fuel Spencer’s comeback.

Spencer was plagued by 22 turnovers, but forced 15 as well and held Colby to 35 percent shooting (13 of 38).

Jeremy Rahm scored 21 points and had eight rebounds to lead Colby, which falls to 12-7 and 9-5 in the Cloverbelt East.
