MADISON – Stratford’s Alex Heiden saw his season come to an end, falling 15-2 to Mark Meyer of Random Lake in a Division 3 120-pound first-round match Thursday night at the WIAA State Individual Wrestling Tournament at the Kohl Center.

Heiden, a sophomore, ends his year with a 32-10 record.

Meyer jumped out to a 5-0 lead after the first period and 13-1 by the end of the second with a number of takedowns and nearfalls as Heiden was unable to gain control.

Meyer (39-8), a senior, moves on to a Division 3 quarterfinal Friday morning against Brady Webb (41-3) of Spring Valley/Elmwood.

Heiden’s teammate, Andrew Murdaugh, earned a first-round bye with his sectional championship last weekend and will face the winner of Thursday’s match between Brad DenBoer (38-4) of Oostburg and Ben McFall (31-12) of Iowa-Grant in a 285-pound quarterfinal match early Friday afternoon for a spot in Friday night’s semifinals.
