PITTSVILLE – Stratford began its season with a five-run first inning and rolled to a 13-1 win over Pittsville in its season and Marawood Conference South Division softball opener Tuesday at Pittsville.

Sara Griesbach had a single, a two-run homer, three RBIs and three runs scored to lead the Tigers’ offensive attack. Jenessa Denfeld added two hits and Rachel Ludwig had two hits and three runs scored for Stratford.

Liz Krum tossed a five-inning complete game in her first varsity start. She struck out three, walked one and allowed just one hit.

“This was a good first game for us,” Stratford coach Mandy Pankratz said. “We made some mistakes, but we will learn from those.

“I was proud of our offense, even our outs were well hit balls.”

Stratford hosts Spencer on Monday.
