Gilman uses two big innings to beat Marshfield Columbus Catholic softball

MARSHFIELD – Gilman put up eight runs in the first inning and didn’t look back, cruising to a 20-6 win over Marshfield Columbus Catholic in a Cloverbelt Conference East Division softball game Thursday at the Marshfield Fairgrounds.

Gilman tacked on three more in the second and six in the third to open up a 17-3 lead. Columbus had its biggest inning in the fifth, scoring three times, but the game ended due to the 10-run rule after five innings.

Shawna Rhodes, Alishia Reigel and Katelyn Welsh each went 2-for-3 for the Dons (0-2 overall and Cloverbelt East).

Tiara Latz struck out six and earned the win for Gilman (3-0 overall and Cloverbelt East).

Columbus plays at Neillsville on Friday.
