Spencer softball demolishes Augusta

SPENCER – The Spencer softball team continued its early-season offensive explosion, scoring 26 runs in a 26-5 rout of Augusta in a Cloverbelt Conference East Division matchup Monday.

The Rockets smacked 14 hits and took advantage of 17 walks and four errors to cruise to the win and improve to 5-1 overall and 3-1 in the Cloverbelt East. Augusta falls to 0-3 and 0-2 in conference.

Spencer scored more than 20 runs for the third straight game and won its fourth straight overall.

Spencer scored eight runs in both the first and second innings to get off to a dominating start.

Marisa Johnson went 3-for-5 with three runs scored and two RBIs to lead the Rockets’ attack that saw eight different players collect at least one hit and 13 players score at least once.

Courtney Schulz had a single, a double and three RBIs, Heidi Guenther had two hits and four runs batted in and earned the win on the mound, and Krystal Weier had three RBIs and three runs scored for Spencer.

Spencer plays at Greenwood on Friday.
