Gilman scores four in seventh to edge Spencer softball

GILMAN – Gilman rallied for four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to pull out a 10-9 win over Spencer in a Cloverbelt Conference East Division softball game Tuesday.

The loss ends Spencer’s four-game conference winning streak. The Rockets fall to 8-3 overall and 4-2 in the Cloverbelt East, with both losses coming to Gilman (5-2, 5-1 Cloverbelt East).

Big innings were the story of the game. Gilman scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning before the Rockets rallied with a four-run second and a three-run fourth to take a 7-3 lead.

Gilman responded with three runs in the fourth, but Spencer again surged ahead with two in the sixth and took a 9-6 lead into the seventh.

The Pirates rallied with four runs against Spencer reliever Heidi Guenther in the seventh.

Spencer had only six hits, but took advantage of six walks and three Gilman errors to score its nine runs.

Tynae Phillips went 2-for-3 and Krystal Weier had a double, a home run and three RBIs to lead the Spencer attack. Marisa Johnson added a pair of walks and scored three times.

Kelsie Rosemeyer had three hits and three runs scored, Jenna Fedors had two hits and three RBIs, and Kendall Skabroud had a double and three RBIs for Gilman.

Spencer hosts Loyal on Thursday and Neillsville on Friday.
