Stratford softball edges Wisconsin Rapids Assumption in 8 innings

STRATFORD – Hannah Schmitt doubled to lead off the eighth inning and pinch-runner Jennah Kaiser ended up scoring on a passed ball to give the Stratford softball team a 4-3 win over Wisconsin Rapids Assumption in a Marawood Conference South Division matchup Friday.

Liz Krum picked up the win for the Tigers, allowing eight hits and four walks, while striking out seven.

Rachel Ludwig went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and three stolen bases, and Schmitt, Sara Griesbach, Sam Frombach and Jenessa Denfeld each had two hits for Stratford (7-4, 6-2 Marawood South).

With their win and Wausau Newman Catholic’s loss to Marathon on Friday, the Tigers climb to within one-half game of first-place Newman in the Marawood South.

Stratford plays at Auburndale on Monday.
