Spencer sweeps doubleheader from Columbus Catholic

MARSHFIELD – The Spencer softball team pushed its winning streak to five games with a doubleheader sweep of Marshfield Columbus Catholic 15-5 and 21-5 on Tuesday at Braem Park.

The Rockets, winnings of eight of their last nine games, improve to 17-5 overall and 11-4 in the Cloverbelt Conference East Division, while Columbus falls to 1-15 and 1-13 in the conference.

In the opener, Spencer scored six times in the first inning and added three more in the second, third and fifth innings to win via the 10-run rule.

Heidi Guenther earned the win, striking out six and walking five, while giving up just three hits.

Marisa Johnson had two hits, two RBIs and three runs scored for Spencer. Paige Johnson added a double, a home run and scored three times and Tynae Phillips had a double and four RBIs in the win.

In Game 2, Paige Johnson had a single and smacked another home run and had three RBIs, and Dani Johnson, Brooke Kettleborough and Krystal Weier each had two hits for the Rockets.

Spencer hosts Greenwood on Friday and Columbus plays at Owen-Withee on Monday in each team’s conference finales.
