SPENCER – The Spencer girls basketball team has found scoring points a tough proposition so far this season, but on Tuesday night the Rockets seemed to figure it out.

Spencer made 16 of 36 shots from the floor and hit 17 of 27 free throws to down Edgar 50-47 in a nonconference game at Spencer High School.

Tara Matter scored 19 points and grabbed 14 rebounds as she dominated inside for Spencer (4-3).

Macie Weber added 12 points and eight rebounds, and Marisa Johnson had eight points and six rebounds for the Rockets.

Spencer used a 15-8 first quarter to take an early lead and held on from there.

Holly Denfeld had 16 points and eight rebounds for Edgar, which falls to 2-5.

Spencer plays at undefeated Neillsville on Thursday.
