Stratford boys basketball pulls past Wisconsin Rapids Assumption

STRATFORD – Andrew Marcis scored 16 points and pulled down eight rebounds to lead the Stratford boys basketball team to a 60-52 win over Wisconsin Rapids Assumption in a Marawood Conference South Division game Friday night at Stratford High School.

Marcis made 8 of 11 shots from the field to pace a Tigers’ attack that shot 61 percent (25 of 41) from the field.

Travis Urlaub added 12 points, making 6 of 9 from the free throw line, and Nolan Bargender chipped in 11 points for Stratford (6-3, 3-3 Marawood South).

Josh Paltz had a game-high 22 points for Assumption (4-6, 2-4 Marawood South).

Stratford led by just two, 31-29, at halftime before opening up a double-digit lead with a 17-7 advantage in the third quarter, and hung on from there.

The Tigers return next Friday, Dec. 28, when they host Owen-Withee in a nonconference game.
