Stratford girls basketball pulls away from Iola-Scandinavia

STRATFORD – Stratford trailed after the first quarter but steadily pulled away to defeat Iola-Scandinavia 43-33 in a nonconference girls basketball game Monday night at Stratford High School.

Hannah Schmitt had 17 points and 10 rebounds, and Carrie Stroetz added 15 points and seven rebounds for Stratford, which improves to 12-9 with the win.

Iola-Scandinavia falls to 8-13.

Stratford trailed 9-5 after the first quarter, but turned that around and took a 17-14 lead into halftime. The Tigers outscored I-S by three in the third quarter and four in the fourth to pull out the double-digit win.

Stratford wraps up its regular-season schedule with a Marawood Conference North-South crossover game on Thursday. An opponent is yet to be determined.
