Spencer girls basketball drops Cloverbelt Crossover to Chippewa Falls McDonell

SPENCER – Chippewa Falls McDonell outscored Spencer by six in the fourth quarter to pull out a 37-31 win over the Rockets in the fifth-place game of the Cloverbelt Conference East-West Crossovers on Thursday at Spencer High School.

McDonell led 7-0 after the first quarter before Spencer rallied to tie the game at 10-10 at halftime.

The score remained tied at 23-23 after three quarters before the Macks pulled away in the fourth.

Marisa Johnson scored 12 points to lead Spencer. Tara Matter added nine points and 11 rebounds.

The Rockets end their regular-season schedule with an 11-11 record, while McDonell improves to 13-9.

Spencer hosts Edgar in a WIAA Division 5 regional quarterfinal on Tuesday.
