Auburndale girls basketball tops Prentice in Marawood crossover

PRENTICE – Auburndale pulled out to a double-digit lead by halftime and cruised to a 50-42 win over Prentice in the third-place game of the Marawood Conference North-South girls basketball crossovers on Thursday at Prentice High School.

Auburndale led 33-22 at halftime and pushed its lead to 16 by the end of the third quarter, on its way to its 15th win of the season.

The Apaches finish the regular season with a 15-7 record. Prentice falls to 12-9.

Nicole Nikolay had 11 points and seven rebounds, and Shannon Yahnke added 10 points for Auburndale.

Alyson Nehls led Prentice with 13 points, making all six of her free throw attempts.

Auburndale earned a first-round bye in the upcoming WIAA girls basketball playoffs and will host the winner of the Pittsville-Stratford in a Division 4 regional semifinal on March 1.
