GILMAN – Neillsville edged Marshfield Columbus Catholic for the girls title and Loyal ended up five points better than Neillsville in the boys championship chase at the 2013 Eastern Cloverbelt Conference Track & Field Meet held Tuesday at Gilman High School.
The Dons girls finished with 147 points, 19 shy of first-place Neillsville. Led by a pair of first-place finishes by Alexandria Hutchison and two relay wins, Columbus Catholic finished as the runner-up.
Hutchison won the 100 meters (13.53) and 200 (27.08) for the Dons’ lone two individual wins. The 800 relay won in 1:54.81 and the 400 relay was victorious in 54.51 seconds.
Other top finishes for Columbus Catholic included Kayla Selz (second in 100, 14:09), Hannah Kruse (second in the discus, 90-4, and third in the shot put (29-5½), Elizabeth Manlick (third in the 100 hurdles, 18.65) and Rachel Roehl (third in the 300 hurdles, 52.24, and the high jump, 4-8).
The Spencer girls finished fourth behind a pair of wins by Rachel Zastrow. She won the 100 hurdles in 17.57 and the pole vault (10 feet). Zastrow also finished second in the 300 hurdles (49.65).
Also placing second for the Spencer girls was Abby Varsho in the high jump (4-8) and Jordyn Wichlacz in the triple jump (31-1).
The Columbus Catholic boys were third and the Spencer boys took eighth out of the nine teams at the meet. Neither team had a conference champion.
Columbus Catholic had three second-place finishes – Christian Payant in the 300 hurdles (42.67), Malcolm Pittsley in the 200 (24.14) and the 1,600 relay team (3:51.29). Samual Studinger was third in the 800 (2:16.25) for the Dons.
Spencer had third-place finishes by the 400 relay team (49.30) and Tyler Stelson in the shot put (43-7¼). Spencer Susa was fourth in the shot put (42-4) for the Rockets.
Both Spencer and Marshfield Columbus Catholic will compete in the WIAA Division 3 regional meet at Colby on Monday.
