Columbus Catholic volleyball opens season strong with 3-0 record at Loyal/Granton Tournament

GRANTON – The Marshfield Columbus Catholic volleyball team opened its season with a perfect 3-0 record and a first-place finish at the Loyal/Granton Volleyball Tournament on Thursday at Granton High School.

The Dons defeated Rib Lake 25-17, 25-19, Loyal/Granton 25-23, 25-14, and Osseo-Fairchild 25-15, 25-16, to win the tournament.

Hannah Zarnke had 23 digs and eight service aces, Hannah Kruse knocked down 15 kills, and Katie Weister added seven aces for Columbus Catholic.

Tara Brock had six assists in each match to total a team-high 18 in the tournament. Abby Baierl added 17 assists.

Columbus jumps back into action Saturday when it plays at the Chippewa Falls McDonell Tournament, and opens its home schedule Sept. 5 with a nonconference match against Northland Lutheran.
