WESTON – Chris Pahl scored with 2:40 remaining in the game to lift the Marshfield boys soccer team to its fourth straight win – a 2-1 victory over D.C. Everest on Thursday night at D.C. Everest Middle School.

The Tigers improve to 5-2 overall and 3-1 in the Wisconsin Valley Conference and remain in a tie for first place with Stevens Point. Everest falls to 4-2 and 1-2 in the Valley.

The game was scoreless until Marshfield’s Matt McCann scored 12:26 into the second half off an assist from Camilo Mesa.

Everest tied it up quickly when Aaron Maurey netted a goal 4 minutes later and the game remained tied until Pahl scored as time was winding down in regulation.

D.C. Everest had only four shots on goal, three of which were saved by Marshfield goalkeeper Matt Brown.

“It is hard penetrating our middle defense right now,” Marshfield coach Ron Todryk said, praising Brandon Nikolai and Zach Leggon for their defensive presence. “Our defense is playing very strong right now.”

Todryk said Matt DeGrand and Austin Christianson were able to shut down the outside, making things very difficult on Everest.

“After Everest tied the game, the kids dug their cleats in a little deeper,” Todryk said. “You could just see that they were like, ‘We’re going to win this game.’ The confidence level is there in every game.”

Marshfield opens play at the Fond du Lac Tournament on Friday night with a game vs. Fond du Lac at 7 p.m. The Tigers will play two more games on Saturday.
