Spencer volleyball moves to 3-0 in Cloverbelt East with win over Columbus Catholic

MARSHFIELD – The Spencer volleyball team stayed undefeated, sweeping Marshfield Columbus Catholic in a Cloverbelt Conference East Division matchup Thursday at Columbus Catholic High School.

Spencer won 25-16, 25-11, 25-16, to improve to 3-0 in the Cloverbelt East, while Columbus Catholic drops to 0-2.

Marissa Johnson had 14 kills and 15 digs for Spencer. Lindsey Vaughan led the Rockets’ defense with 25 digs and setter Brooke Kettleborough had 22 assists.

“We played a little too slow at times, but our front row was too much for them,” Spencer coach Buff Heller said. “Columbus was a young team that really made us work for points.”

Tara Brock had eight assists and Hannah Zarnke had 10 digs for the Dons. Columbus had just 11 kills in the match, three by Paige Thornton.

Spencer plays at Greenwood and Columbus hosts Loyal/Granton in Cloverbelt East matchups on Tuesday.
