WAUSAU – Stratford’s Johnelle Miner and Marshfield’s Max Tibbett had top-20 finishes at the 57th annual Smiley Cross Country Invitational on Saturday at American Legion Golf Course.
Miner was 15th in the Division 2-3 girls race, finishing in 16:43 for the Tigers. Stratford finished 22nd among the 28 complete teams that competed.
Spencer finished 27th and was led by Paige Lawrence, who was 101st in 18:35.
Auburndale only had four runners and did not have a team score. Stafani Karl was the Apaches’ top runner, taking 102nd in 18:34.
Little Chute won the D-2/3 team title with 157 points.
In Division 1, Marshfield was 17th among the 24 teams. Running without top runner Rebecca Voss, McKayla Scheuer led the Tigers by placing 77th in 17:12.45.
Eagan (Minn.) won the Division 1 girls title with 63 points, with Sun Prairie second and Stevens Point third.
Stevens Point on the Division 1 boys title with 41 points, easily outdistancing itself from Kimberly (105) and Eau Claire Memorial (109).
Evan Hatton was first (16:20.58) and Sam Sheibley (16:22.21) took second overall for Stevens Point.
Marshfield finished 20th among the 26 teams with 499 points, led by Tibbett. Tibbett finished 20th in 17:10, 21 seconds out of the top 10.
Stratford was 14th, Auburndale took 25th and Spencer had an incomplete squad in the Division 2 & 3 boys race.
Phil Sersch of Stratford topped the area runners with a 42nd-place finish in 18:12.
Donovan Fox was Spencer’s top runner, taking 72nd in 18:51, and Tom Sabel led Auburndale, taking 132nd in 20:04.
Shorewood had three top-nine finishers to win the team title with 53 points.
