Marshfield girls golf team second at WIAA Division 1 regional at Stevens Point

STEVENS POINT – Three Marshfield golfers finished in the top five to lead the Tigers to a second-place finish at the WIAA Division 1 girls golf regional Wednesday at Stevens Point Country Club.

The Tigers actually tied with Tomah for first place at the regional with a score of 387 before losing in a playoff by three strokes on the second hole.

Molly Field led the way for Marshfield, finishing fourth with a 93. Jordyn Fitzgerald and Macy Fitzgerald tied Holmen’s Courtney Bergum for fifth with 95s.

Ana Jensen rounded out the Marshfield scoring with a 104, tying for 15th place.

Danielle Ducklow of Tomah was the meet medalist, shooting an 85 and winning by seven shots over Stevens Point’s Megan Roth and Sydnie Martin of Holmen.

The top four teams at the regional and the top four individual finishers not on those qualifying teams move on to the sectional meet on Oct. 8 at La Crosse. The top two teams and top three individuals not on those teams at the sectional will qualify for the 2013 WIAA State Girls Golf Tournament at University Ridge Golf Club in Verona on Oct. 14-15.
