Marshfield falls to Oregon in WIAA Division 2 state boys soccer semifinal

MILWAUKEE – The Marshfield boys soccer team got off to a quick start but Oregon bounced back with three straight scores before halftime and went on to a 4-1 win over the Tigers in a Division 2 semifinal at the 2013 WIAA State Boys Soccer Tournament at Uihlein Soccer Park on Friday afternoon.

Matt McCann scored for the Tigers just 1:52 into the game off a corner kick by Austin Gilbert, putting Marshfield up 1-0. It was McCann’s team-high 23rd goal of the season.

However, just 3:18 later, Zack Hanson netted his first goal of the season for Oregon to tie the game and the Panthers added two more scores before halftime.

Mitch Morhoff scored at the 23:06 mark and Shaw Storey added another goal at the 29:27 mark to put Oregon up 3-1 at the half.

Oregon dominated the ball for most of the game, as two of Marshfield’s four shots on goal came in the first 2 minutes.

Chris Pahl just missed on a score late in the first half when his header, off another corner kick from Gilbert, sailed just over the crossbar at with 2:12 to go before halftime.

Oregon added its fourth goal 17:11 into the second half when Sam Mosiman scored to make it 4-1.

Matt Brown had seven saves in goal for the Tigers.

Marshfield ends its season with a school-record 19 wins and a 19-5-3 mark overall.

Oregon (16-3-2) moves on to the WIAA Division 2 state championship game at 3 p.m. Saturday against Cedarburg (15-4-2). Cedarburg beat Whitefish Bay 2-1 in the first semifinal on Friday.

The championship game will be streamed live online at foxsportswisconsin.com and will be televised on tape-delay at 5 p.m. on Fox Sports Wisconsin.
