MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield High School boys soccer team had the best season in the program’s history in 2013 and the voters have chosen the Tigers team as the winner of the WDLB-WOSQ Radio/MarshfieldAreaSports.com October High School Athlete of the Month.
The award, which will be voted on and given out monthly throughout the 2013-14 school year, is also sponsored by Marshfield Clinic and Burt Trophy & Awards.
The Marshfield boys soccer team finished off its first-ever outright Wisconsin Valley Conference championship with a 2-1 record in conference play in October. The conference title was Marshfield’s first since it tied for the championship in 2005.
The Tigers went on to win four WIAA Division 2 playoff games in the month and finished off a sectional title on Oct. 26 with a win over New Richmond in a sectional final. Marshfield advanced to its first state tournament and lost in a Division 2 semifinal to Oregon 4-1 on Nov. 1.
Nominations for the November High School Athlete of the Month will be accepted via e-mail at paul@marshfieldareasports.com from Nov. 15-30. Voting will be conducted at MarshfieldAreaSports.com from Dec. 1-7.
