Stratford girls basketball loses Marawood South opener at Marathon

MARATHON – Marathon started the game with a 24-9 advantage in the first quarter and went on to a 65-37 victory over Stratford in a Marawood Conference girls basketball game Friday night at Marathon High School.

Marathon improves to 2-0, while Stratford drops to 1-1. The game was the Marawood South opener for both teams.

Emily Kind had 28 points and 12 rebounds for Marathon, making 12 of 23 shots from the field.

Marathon pushed its lead to 37-17 at halftime and led 54-26 after three quarters.

Marissa Cepress scored 10 points and Brooke Schultze had seven for the Tigers.

Stratford is off until next Thursday when it hosts Chequamegon in a nonconference game.
