Spencer softball sweeps two from Augusta, improves to 5-0 in Cloverbelt East

SPENCER – Spencer overcame a seven-run deficit to win the first game and blasted Augusta in Game 2, sweeping a Cloverbelt Conference East Division softball doubleheader Friday at Spencer High School.

Spencer trailed 7-0 after 2½ innings in the first game but battled back and scored six runs in the bottom of the sixth to win 11-10. The Rockets won the second game 10-2.

Spencer is now 5-1 overall and 5-0 in the Cloverbelt East. Augusta drops to 2-4 and 1-4 in the conference.

Spencer only had seven hits in Game 1, but took advantage of seven walks and four errors to pull out the win.

Macie Weber had a single, a double and two RBIs, and Mandie Schultz added two RBIs for the Rockets. Weber also earned the win with two scoreless innings of relief.

Weber led the way in Game 2 as well for Spencer, tossing a five-inning complete game, striking out seven. She added two singles, a home run and four RBIs at the plate.
