Loyal High School junior Morgan Malm has been voted as the WDLB-WOSQ Radio & MarshfieldAreaSports.com May High School Athlete of the Month.

Malm garnered a little more than one-third of the 1,000-plus votes cast to win the voting.

Malm won a pair of sectional titles and took second in another event to qualify for the WIAA state meet in all three. Malm won the 300 hurdles in 40.37 seconds and the high jump (6-1), and was second in the 110 hurdles (15.82) at the Marathon sectional on May 30.

Malm won the 110 hurdles and high jump at the regionals on May 27 at Edgar, and was second in the 300 hurdles, and won all three events to lead the Greyhounds to the team title at the Cloverbelt Conference Meet on May 20 at Colby.

Malm went on to win the 110-meter hurdles at the 2014 WIAA State Meet in 15.20 seconds. He also earned medals by taking second in the 300 hurdles (40.17) and sixth in the high jump (6-0).

Other nominees for the award were Marshfield girls soccer player Walker Guzowski, Marshfield boys track athlete Keiron Howlett, Columbus Catholic girls track athlete Alexandra Hutchison, Columbus Catholic baseball player Kienan McIntee, Spencer baseball player Bobby Pilz and Stratford boys track athlete Eli Temanson.

Malm joins past winners of the award during the 2013-14 school year that include: Spencer volleyball player Marisa Johnson (September), the Marshfield boys soccer team (October), Spencer boys basketball player Jeremiah Cattanach (November), Neillsville girls basketball player Jenny Lindner (December), Stratford wrestler Dondrick Tackes (January), Athens girls basketball player Kyncaide Diedrich (February), Marshfield boys track athlete Brad Krueger (March) and Marshfield girls soccer player Darian Molter (April).
