Stratford football team’s season ends at Amherst again

AMHERST – For the third-straight season, the Stratford football team’s season ends at Amherst.

The undefeated Falcons (11-0) whipped Stratford 41-6 in a WIAA Division 5 Level 2 playoff Friday night at Amherst High School.

The Tigers finish the season with a 7-4 record and suffer their third loss in a row to Amherst in the postseason. In each of the past two seasons, Amherst beat Stratford in a Level 3 matchup.

Amherst will host Bonduel in a Level 3 matchup next Friday.

Ben Gutschow had three interceptions, one of which he returned 98 yards for a touchdown, for the Falcons.

Michael Bargender threw an 82-yard touchdown pass to Jesse Dickman for Stratford’s lone score.

Amherst quarterback Garrett Groshek had 158 yards rushing and three touchdowns, and threw for another in the win.

Kam Bornbach led the Tigers with 62 yards rushing and Bargender finished 4-for-9 with 101 yards and two interceptions.
