First-place Waupaca nets win over Marshfield girls hockey

WAUPACA – Mandy Tomlinson scored five goals and assisted on two others as first-place Waupaca toppled Marshfield 9-3 in a Great Northern Conference girls hockey game Monday night at the Waupaca Expo Center.

Tomlinson scored twice in the first period and added two more in the third as the Comets won to maintain a one-half game lead over Northern Edge on top of the GNC standings. Waupaca is now 18-2 overall and 8-1 in the conference. Marshfield falls to 5-12 and 4-6 in the GNC.

Waupaca led 3-0 before Morgan Larson scored twice for the Tigers to cut the deficit to one after the first period.

Waupaca responded with three-straight goals and after another Larson goal, the Comets scored three more in the final period to preserve the victory.

Waupaca held a 45-22 advantage in shots on goal. Maddie Hall made 36 saves for the Tigers.

Marshfield plays a nonconference game at Black River Falls on Tuesday.
