MARSHFIELD – Marshfield became the first team this season to defeat D.C. Everest, blanking the Evergreens 1-0 in a Wisconsin Valley Conference boys soccer match Thursday at Griese Park.

Luke McCann scored on an assist from Noah Heegeman with 5:04 left in the first half for the game’s only goal.

Marshfield is now 3-4-2 overall and 3-2 in the Valley, while Everest drops to 6-1-1 and 3-1 in the conference.

Mathias Holm saved all 11 shots fired his way to earn the shutout victory for the Tigers.

“Our defensive fullbacks, Klaus Friedli and Collin Nikolai, had excellent games, and Ben Simon in deep midfield marked up tough on Jack Mittelsteadt, one of the best scorers and players in the Valley and held him off the scoresheet,” Marshfield coach Steve McCann said. “Mathias Holm made a couple big saves as well.”

Marshfield hosts Holmen at 11 a.m. Saturday at Griese Park.
