MARSHFIELD – The University of Wisconsin-Marshfield/Wood County women’s basketball team started its 2015-16 season with a bang, routing UW-Rock County 46-24 on Saturday afternoon at the Marauder Gym.
The Marauders led 24-10 at halftime and maintained their double-digit lead in the second half.
Karly Bump had a team-high 13 points and Hayley Bunnell (10 points, 14 rebounds) and Allie Paitel (12 points, 13 rebounds) had double-doubles for the Marauders.
“We played a great defensive game and had a balanced offensive game to lead to the victory,” UW-Marshfield coach Brent Ystad said.
Rock County shot a paltry 15.8 percent (9 of 57) from the field, including 4 of 31 from 3-point range.
The Marauders play at UW-Marathon County in Wausau on Wednesday.
