Columbus Catholic upends Tri-County in WIAA Division 5 girls basketball regional semifinal

PLAINFIELD – The Marshfield Columbus Catholic girls basketball team stayed alive for another day with a 73-69 upset of Tri-County in a WIAA Division 5 regional semifinal on Friday night at Tri-County High School.

The sixth-seeded Dons are now 12-12 this season and will play a regional final at Loyal (20-4) on Saturday at 7 p.m. Loyal defeated Columbus twice during the Cloverbelt Conference East Division season – by 28 in December and 23 in January.

Tri-County, the third seed in the sectional, end its season with a 20-4 record.

Jess Trad led five Dons in double figures with 15 points. The senior guard made 8 of 9 free throws and also led the team with seven rebounds.

Natalie Pospyhalla had 13 points, Abby Baierl added 12, Baylie Neider chipped in with 11, and Marissa Immerfall had 10 in the win. Baierl, Neider and Immerfall all had six rebounds as well.

Columbus made 24 of 34 free throws, while Tri-County was just 5 of 9.
