Marshfield gymnast Emma Haugen has been voted as the WDLB-WOSQ Radio & MarshfieldAreaSports.com February High School Athlete of the Month.

The High School Athlete of the Month Award is sponsored by Marshfield Clinic, Cost Cutters Family Hair Care and Burt Trophy & Awards.

Varsity athletes from the following high schools are eligible to be nominated for the award: Abbotsford, Athens, Auburndale, Colby, Columbus Catholic, Edgar, Granton, Greenwood, Loyal, Marathon, Marshfield, Neillsville, Owen-Withee, Pittsville, Spencer, Stratford and Thorp.

Haugen received 1,554 of the nearly 3,800 votes cast, outlasting Stratford wrestler Kamren Bornbach by just 42 votes.

Haugen, a freshman, capped off a great month of February with a tie for third place in the vault at the WIAA sectional at Eau Claire Memorial on Feb. 27, earning a spot at the WIAA State Gymnastics Meet on March 5 at Wisconsin Rapids. She finished in a tie for 22nd in the event at the state meet. Haugen had a score of 9.1 to finish in a three-way for third to qualify for state. She also won the floor exercise with a score of 9.125 and was third in the vault for the Tigers at the Great Northern Conference Meet on Feb. 20. She had scores of 9.05 in the floor and 9.0 in the vault to win both events and the all-around at the Tomah Quad on Feb. 8.

Other February nominees were Columbus Catholic boys basketball player Tyler Fuerlinger and Thorp girls basketball player Aeysha Paskert.

Haugen joins Abbotsford volleyball player Makenzie Klieforth (September), Spencer/Columbus football player Noah Zastrow (October), Marshfield girls basketball player Ema Fehrenbach (November), Stratford wrestling Jeremy Schoenherr (December), and Stratford girls basketball player Savannah Schillinger (January) as winners of the monthly award during the 2015-16 school year.
