Columbus boys win Cloverbelt East track title

COLBY – The Marshfield Columbus Catholic boys track team won three relays and three individual titles and that led to a team title at the Eastern Cloverbelt Conference Track and Field Meet on Tuesday at Colby High School.

The Dons won the 800 (1:37.63), 400 (45.68) and 1,600 (3:38.71) relays on their way to the team title. The 3,200 relay was second (9:13.18).

Individually, Ben Stassen won the 300-meter hurdles (44.06), edging teammate Matthew Gotz (44.87). Austin Mahoney won the 200 (23.82) and Bryan Carey took first in the 800 (2:07.86). Greg Wunrow was second in the long jump for the Dons, leaping 19 feet, ½ inch for Columbus’ ninth top-two finish.

The Spencer boys were sixth behind a win by Tyler Kolstad in the high jump (6-0). Ben Bonitz was second in the 110 hurdles (17.91), Bryan Brodziski was runner-up in the triple jump (40-8) and the Rockets’ 1,600 relay team also took second (3:39.63).

On the girls side, Spencer and Marshfield Columbus each won three events.

The Dons’ 800 (1:53.74) and 400 (52.63) relay teams took first, as did Mariah Heimam in the 100 (13.35) as the Columbus girls took third.

Sarah Brandt was second in the 3,200 (13:01.85) and the 3,200 relay team also finished second (10:48.47).

Spencer got wins from Kyleigh Hebert in the high jump (4-8), Tara Matter in the triple jump (33-1) and Macie Hebert in the discus (116-4). Kyleigh Hebert also took third in the long jump (14-6) and Jessica Ruhbusch took third in the 800 (2:43.54) as the Rockets girls took fifth.
