Stratford softball splits two at home invite

STRATFORD – The Stratford softball team split a pair of games at its home invitational on Saturday at Hilgemann Field.

Stratford had its four-game winning streak snapped with a 4-2 loss to Medford. The Tigers came back to beat Athens 13-3 and are now 5-2 this season.

Stratford was held to four hits in the loss to Medford by pitcher Sydney Elsner, who struck out six and also had a double, a triple and two RBIs.

Kiana Weiler was the winning pitcher for Stratford against Athens, finishing with three strikeouts and no walks.

Brittany Bredemann, Sammy Griesbach and Val Licciardi each had two hits, and Kaylee Geiger and Sammy Kaiser each had two RBIs for Stratford.

The Tigers host Marathon on Monday.
