Columbus Catholic soccer shuts out Pacelli

MARSHFIELD – Tyler Fuerlinger scored twice and the Marshfield Columbus Catholic soccer team pulled away in the second half to beat Stevens Point Pacelli 5-0 on Thursday at Griese Park.

The Dons did not allow a shot by Pacelli, outshooting the Cardinals 15-0 on goal.

Columbus’ Calvin Brown scored 22:39 into the game on a penalty kick and the score remained 1-0 until 22 minutes into the second half.

From there, the Dons dominated. Fuerlinger scored in the 68th and 81st minutes, and Charles Payant and Ryan Dieringer scored two minutes apart to provide the wining margin.

The Dons improve to 14-1 overall and 8-0 in the Mid-State Soccer Conference with the victory. Columbus has opened up a nine-point lead in the conference standings with four games remaining.

Columbus will be at Wausau Newman on Tuesday.
