SPENCER – Marshfield Columbus Catholic shot 48 percent from the field and made 11 of 15 free throws on its way to a 55-23 victory over Spencer in a Cloverbelt Conference East Division girls basketball matchup Tuesday night at Spencer High School.

The Dons (3-0, 2-0 Cloverbelt East) got 15 points from Morgan Albrecht and 14 from Marissa Immerfall in the win. The two combined to make all seven of their free throw attempts.

Natalie Pospyhalla added 11 points and four rebounds, and Kendra Baierl had a game-high eight rebounds for Columbus.

Lexi Baehr, who had 32 points in Spencer’s season-opening win against Granton last Friday, was held to just five points on 1 of 6 shooting.

“Maren Seefluth and Zoe Stratman did a great job shutting down Lexi Baehr tonight holding her to just five points,” Columbus Catholic coach Rhonda Keding said. “It was a great all-around defense effort. Our turnovers came down, only having five in the second half, and we kept them to six offensive rebounds.”

Jessica Becker led Spencer (1-1 overall and Cloverbelt East) with eight points.

Columbus Catholic will play Nekoosa in the first round of the Cranberry Classic at Wisconsin Rapids Assumption on Friday, while Spencer is off until next Tuesday when it plays a nonconference game at home against Athens.
