Auburndale boys basketball cruises past Athens

AUBURNDALE – The Auburndale boys basketball team put up a season-high in points as it rolled past Athens 85-50 in a nonconference game Thursday at Auburndale High School.

Auburndale (3-2) shot 52 percent from the field, making 21 of 51 shots, including five 3-pointers. The Apaches also made 16 of 24 free throws and had 10 different players score in the game.

Auburndale raced out to a 44-18 lead by halftime and put up another 41 points in the second half.

Colten Yeske led Auburndale with 15 points, and Collin Hawkins and Cooper Weinfurter each added 10 for the Apaches.

Auburndale will be back in action on Dec. 29 and 30 when it hosts its annual home holiday tournament. Loyal will play Weyauwega-Fremont at 6 p.m. Dec. 29, with Auburndale vs. Augusta to follow. The losers play at 6 p.m. on Dec. 30, with the winners playing for the championship at approximately 7:30 p.m.
