Auburndale girls basketball pulls past Assumption in Marawood South opener

AUBURNDALE – The Auburndale girls basketball team used a big second-half run to knock off Wisconsin Rapids Assumption 47-33 in a Marawood Conference South Division game Monday night at Auburndale High School.

The Apaches led 16-15 at halftime before pulling away with a 13-point advantage over the second 18 minutes.

Isabelle Hilber scored 16 points and had seven rebounds, Natalie Aue added 10 points and eight rebounds, and Marissa Ponshock had eight points and nine rebounds for Auburndale.

The Apaches (2-0, 1-0 Marawood South) shot just 32 percent (20 of 61) from the field, but were able to hold off Assumption (0-1 overall and Marawood South) by making seven of nine free throws.

Auburndale is back in action Tuesday, Nov. 28, at home against Adams-Friendship.
