Auburndale boys basketball holds off Port Edwards

PORT EDWARDS – The Auburndale boys basketball used a 44-point first half to propel them to a 74-69 victory over Port Edwards in a nonconference matchup Tuesday night at Port Edwards High School.

Auburndale made nine 3-pointers in the first half, four by Cooper Weinfurter and three by Cason Schmutzer, to open up a 44-36 lead at halftime.

The Apaches made just seven baskets from the field in the second half, but were 13 of 19 at the free throw line to hold on for the victory and improve to 8-2 this season.

Weinfurter scored 25 points and Colten Yeske added 17 for Auburndale in the victory.

Both teams finished with 10 made 3-pointers.

Addison Gibbs led Port Edwards (9-2) with 26 points.

Auburndale plays at Phillips on Friday.
