Marshfield swimmers open season with loss

MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield High School girls swimming team opened its season Thursday with a 128-74 loss to Onalaska/Holmen/Aquinas at Marshfield High School.

The Tigers failed to win an event, but had a number of second-place performances.

Individually, Carly Barker was second in the 200-yard individual medley in 2:31.66 and the 100 freestyle in 59.75; Laura Josephson was second in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:10.18 and in the 100 breaststroke in 1:19.78; and Emma Holbrook was second in the 100 backstroke in 1:02.95.

The 200 medley relay team of Holbrook, Josephson, Paige Hawley and Barker was second in 2:02.96; the 200 freestyle relay team of Walker Guzowski, Anna Hilbelink, Megan Marotz and Hawley finished second in 1:58.99; and the 400 freestyle relay team of Barker, Marotz, Holbrook and Josephson was runner-up in a time of 4:15.10.

“We had some great swims for the first meet of the season,” Marshfield coach Faye Egger said.

Marshfield will compete at the Hatchet Relays in Tomahawk on Aug. 27.
