MERRILL – The Marshfield girls soccer team picked up its first point in Wisconsin Valley Conference play with a 1-1 tie against Merrill on Tuesday night.

Mae Litschauer scored at the 20:05 mark of the first half to give the Bluejays (3-6-1, 0-3-1 WVC) an early lead.

Marshfield (2-6-3, 0-2-1 Wisconsin Valley Conference) tied it up on a goal by Nina Hashimoto with 23 minutes remaining in the game.

Marshfield outshot Merrill 18-9. Mikayla Brueggen picked up four saves for the Tigers.

“After playing a sluggish first half, the Tigers really turned up the intensity and urgency, and played like we have been used to seeing them play,” Marshfield coach Steve Lindner said. “We started winning 50/50 balls and battling for every loose ball. I liked the way we played in the second half and that the team can be very proud of. The outcome was not what we would have liked but the effort in the second half was all a coach can ask for.”

Marshfield hosts D.C. Everest at 5 p.m. Thursday.
