MARSHFIELD – Maddie Simpson had a hat trick for D.C. Everest as the Evergreens shut out Marshfield 6-0 in a Wisconsin Valley Conference girls soccer game Thursday at Griese Park.

Krista Koenig, Maria Esker and Brenna Raasch added goals for Everest (9-3-3, 4-0 WVC).

Mikayla Brueggen had seven saves for Marshfield (2-7-3, 0-3-1 WVC).

“Marshfield saw firsthand what one of the best in the state has to offer in soccer, and D.C. Everest took charge from the 12-minute mark on,” Marshfield coach Steve Lindner said. “I am proud of the effort, as I talked before the game we wanted to not fear them and give 100 percent effort out there, and for that I am proud of the girls.

“We had two or three chances on 1-on-1s with the goalie, but just could not finish. Those are learning examples and I know we will finish those off in upcoming games.”

Marshfield plays a nonconference game at Menomonie at 11 a.m. Saturday and wraps up its WVC season with games at home against Wausau East on Tuesday and at Wausau West next Thursday.
