MERRILL – Marshfield edged host Merrill by two strokes to grab the fourth and final sectional qualifying spot at the WIAA Division 1 boys golf regional on Tuesday at Merrill Golf Course.
The Tigers finished with a score of 346, three shots behind third-place D.C. Everest. Stevens Point won the regional title with a 328, one shot better than Wausau West. The top four teams and top three individuals not on those teams move on to the Division 1 sectional on May 29 at Stevens Point Country Club.
Ben Baur shot an 84 to finish ninth overall and lead Marshfield. Nate Noson tied for 10th with an 85, Jaxon Bulgrin had an 87, Josh Gruen shot a 90, and Cole Hanson had a 96 for the Tigers.
Russell Dettmering of Merrill was meet medalist, shooting a 73, one shot ahead of Stevens Point’s Evan Thomas.
