Columbus girls tennis falls at Lakeland

MINOCQUA – A day after beating Lakeland 6-1 at the Merrill Quadrangular, the Marshfield Columbus Catholic girls tennis team lost to the Thunderbirds in a dual meet, 4-3, on Tuesday.

Elizabeth Manlick at No. 1 singles, Scout Inman at No. 2 singles and the No. 1 doubles team of Haley Orella and Angie Seubert won in straight sets to provide the Dons (5-6, 1-1 GNC) with their three wins in the Great Northern Conference dual meet.

Columbus lost all of the other four matches in straight sets, with one coming in a second-set tiebreaker. The Dons’ No. 2 doubles team of Nikki Hertel and Abby Gotz lost to Lakeland’s Mel Coconate and Megan Hebert 6-2, 7-6, including an 11-9 loss in the tiebreaker.

Columbus is back in action Thursday at Stevens Point Pacelli for a nonconference dual meet.
