Cassidy hits for two goals as Marshfield boys soccer blanks Onalaska

MARSHFIELD – Kevin Cassidy scored twice to pace the Marshfield boys soccer team in a 2-0 nonconference win over Onalaska on Saturday at Griese Park.

With the victory the Tigers finish the regular season with an 10-6-3 record. Marshfield will open the WIAA playoffs on Tuesday with a Division 2 regional semifinal against Wausau East at 4 p.m. at Griese Park in Marshfield.

Cassidy scored on an assist from Kade McManus 6 minutes into the game and added another goal 3:07 into the second half to provide the Tigers will all they needed.

“Good game today – the team continues to create great chances to score,” Marshfield coach Steve McCann said. “We missed a few headers and in-close opportunities, but came out with a solid win. t times we controlled the ball and game like we are capable of.

“Dawson Tysver in central defense consistently shuts down opponents aerial attacks with fearless headers which he has done all year. He dominated the middle of the field today.”

Marshfield held Onalaska (7-12-4) to just five total shots and only two on goal, both of which were saved by goalkeeper Tommy Olson.
