WEST BEND – The UW-Stevens Point at Marshfield/Wood County women’s and men’s basketball teams dropped games to UW-Whitewater at Washington County on Saturday afternoon.
The Marauders women lost 73-30 and the men fell 77-53.
In the women’s game, Emily Shipman had 19 points and 11 rebounds for the Marauders, who drop to 0-3 this season.
The Marauders fell behind by 21 points by halftime and were outscored 21-3 in the third quarter, and trailed 57-18.
Courtney Schmidt added seven points for UWSP-Marshfield.
The Marauders’ women are now off for the semester break and return to action Jan. 5-6 when they play UW-Fond du Lac and UW-Sheboygan at the JustAgame Fieldhouse in Wisconsin Dells.
In the men’s game, Washington County raced out to a 43-17 lead at halftime and held on from there.
Jack Bezlyk, a Spencer High School graduate, had 16 points and 17 rebounds for the Marauders. Matthew Carlson added 13 points, and Jared Seemann had 10 rebounds in the loss.
The Marshfield/Wood County men play at UW-Baraboo on Wednesday in its final game of the first semester. The men’s team also will play Fond du Lac and Sheboygan at Wisconsin Dells on Jan. 5-6.
