Maria Anderson 1-1 in season tennis debut at UWGB

GREEN BAY – Marshfield High School graduate Maria Anderson went 1-1 in her flight for the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay women’s tennis team at the Northern Illinois University Invite in DeKalb, Ill., last weekend.

The tournament was the opening event of the fall season for the Phoenix.

Anderson, a sophomore, beat UW-Milwaukee’s Kristin Kurer 2-6, 6-4, 10-7 in her semifinal match in Flight E. Anderson lost in the finals to NIU’s Sara McLaughlin 6-3, 3-6, 10-5.

Anderson was 5-10 in singles and 0-1 in doubles during her freshman season for UWGB.

The Phoenix play at the River Forest Clay Court Collegiate Invitational in River Forest, Ill., this Friday and Saturday and wrap up the short fall season with tournaments at UW-Eau Claire on Sept. 25 and Indiana-Purdue Fort Wayne on Oct. 1-2.

The spring season starts Jan. 16 with a match at Wisconsin.
