STEVENS POINT – The high school track season began on Friday with a pair of area teams competing at the Point Girls Indoor Invitational at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.

Marshfield junior Gracie Holland, fresh off her win in the all-around at the WIAA State Gymnastics Championships a few weeks ago, won the pole vault with a vault of 10 feet, 6 inches, which is a new Marshfield girls indoor school record. It was the Tigers’ lone top-eight finish.

Auburndale also participated in the meet and had three top-eight finishes.

The Apaches’ 3,200-meter relay team of Macie Schmeiser, Erricka Zenner, Jordyn Karl and Vanessa Mitchell finished third in 10:52.96, Isabella Jewell took eighth in the 400 meters in 1:05.47, and the 1,600-meter relay team of Jewell, Schmeiser, Isabelle Hilber and Paityn Hamus finished fifth in 4:32.18.

Stevens Point won the meet with 65 points, 12 ahead of second-place Kimberly.

Marshfield will host its annual Girls Indoor Invitational on Thursday. Both the Marshfield and Auburndale boys will compete at the Point Boys Indoor on Saturday at UWSP.
